GCSE Results Day 2018

St Richard’s Catholic College are pleased to celebrate the achievements of our pupils in this year’s GCSE examinations which represent new qualifications utilising more challenging content and a different assessment regime with most subjects now being assessed on 9-1 grades.

There were over 30 grade 9s achieved by pupils in this year’s examinations with a number of pupils achieving 5 grade 9s representing exceptional performance for the pupils concerned.

As well as celebrating strong results in this year’s GCSE examinations for the whole cohort (83% grades 4+ in English/Maths; 61% 5+ in English and Maths), St Richard’s were delighted to hear that Year 11 pupil, Lucy Sparkes, was one of only 732 pupils in the country to achieve grade 9s in all subjects.

Lucy was thrilled to add 10 grade 9s to the A grade in AS RE achieved the previous week, having achieved an A in Astronomy in Year 9 and an A* in GCSE RE in Year 10.  Lucy will now continue her studies at Eastbourne College having been awarded the prestigious Professor Soddy Award in early May.

Miss Cronin commented, “I am really proud of Lucy’s well-deserved success.  She is a talented young lady who has enjoyed her studies as well as participating in a range of extra-curricular activities/clubs and leadership responsibilities.  Lucy’s most memorable moment in St Richard’s was probably being the first pupil to question astronaut, Tim Peake, at the International Space Station, keeping calm whilst the excited audience awaited his response.  Lucy has the drive, talent and ability to go far!  I am delighted that, along with Lucy, pupils of all abilities achieved great success in their GCSEs this year”.
