ABOUT THE SCHOOL

A warm welcome to St Richard’s Catholic College Guided by Gospel values, St Richard’s offers an inclusive, Christian education to pupils of all abilities from the ages of 11-16 years. Ours is a happy, family school where everyone is encouraged to strive ‘to be the best you can be’, and to look out for others, especially the vulnerable.

We expect our pupils to work hard, behave well, dress smartly and pursue excellence in all that they do inside and outside of the classroom.

A message from St Richard’s Staff…

GCSE Results Day 2020

St Richard’s Catholic College staff were pleased to welcome their Year 11 pupils to receive their Centre Assessed Grades today.

Following all the anguish caused by Ofqual’s algorithm, the DFE’s decision to use Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs) instead of calculated grades was greeted with relief by many a staff member, who had spent a great deal of time in May and June assessing all the evidence that they had on each pupil to predict the likely outcome of each pupil sitting the exam in their subject. In line with expectations, following a rigorous moderation process as a school, the CAGs are strong; hopefully providing all pupils with the necessary qualifications to move on effectively in the next stage of their education.

The school trend is year on year improvement and this year was no exception with little within‑school variation amongst subjects, a strong Attainment 8 score and pupils of all abilities performing well.

The Principal, Miss Cronin, indicated that she was very happy with the Government decision to use CAGs having every confidence in the integrity of her staff and their ability to predict realistic, accurate grades.

Whilst she remains disappointed that the year group concerned did not have the opportunity to shine in taking the GCSE examinations, she felt the CAG decision was the fairest and most pragmatic outcome in these difficult circumstances.

“I want to place on record my congratulations to the pupils and staff for all their endeavours over the GCSE courses and now wish Year 11 even greater success and happiness as they pursue their new courses at Sixth Forms and Colleges. I have no doubt that they will all go on to achieve great things, making an impact on society as well as accountability measures. It has been a challenging time for Year 11 but I am confident that they will not allow the ‘lost learning’ to hold them back.

I would also like to thank parents/carers for all their support motivating and encouraging the pupils to be their best selves throughout their time at the school.”
